What Hoof 100 contains.

  • Calcium Limestone Flour: Calcium Limestone Flour is a natural source of Calcium used in feed supplementation. Calcium is an essential dietary requirement necessary for building strong dense bones in young animals and for maintaining strong healthy bones in older animals.
  • Methionine: Methionine is an essential amino acid meaning it is not synthesised by the body and must be present in the diet. Some of the Methionine in the diet is converted to Cysteine in the animals tissues, both the Methionine and Cysteine contain sulphur an essential element in the formation of keratin. Keratin forms the hoof horn; the outer, hard and shock resistant wall of the hoof, the amount of keratin available determines how tough the hoof is.
  • Lysine: Lysine is an essential amino acid, and is considered as one of the most limiting amino acids. A horse will only produce protein up to the lowest level of limiting amino acid; a shortage of any one essential amino acid will result in poor protein synthesis.
  • Cysteine: Cysteine is a non essential amino acid, meaning it is synthesised by the body. Cysteine is an amino acid used in the production of healthy skin and keratin, therefore playing a vital roll in building strong healthy hooves.
  • Zinc: Zinc is essential for healthy growth and skeletal soundness the formation of bone tissue, healthy hoof and skin tissue.
  • Iron: Iron is required by the body for the production of Red Blood Cells. Red blood cells are integral for the transportation of oxygen to various cells throughout the body. Supplementation of Iron will result in an increased number of red blood cells and in turn an increase in the body’s ability to perform aerobic exercise for longer.
  • Copper: Copper is one of the most important trace elements within horses and such is responsible for; maintaining elastic blood vessels, the formation of healthy bones and collagen, for the mobilisation of iron stored within the body, and for pigmentation and keratinisation. Copper is essential in maintaining a healthy coat colour and quality and is also involved in the process of producing Keratin.
  • Biotin: Biotin is a B vitamin which is needed for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of amino acids and fats. Biotin is water soluble which means that it is not stored in body fat, and therefore must be present in the daily diet. Any excess biotin in the system is excreted from the body in the animal’s urine. Biotin is essential for the formation of strong healthy hooves.
  • Iodine: Iodine is an essential nutrient for reproduction and normal physiological function in the horse. Thyroxin contains iodine; this hormone along with triiodothyronine (T3) has powerful effects on the overall health of the horse. These hormones influence nearly every process in the body, from feed utilization and heat regulation, to proper bone growth and maturation. N.B. it is recommended that horse get between 8 and 12 mg of Iodine / day. Iodine deficiency and toxicity can cause goitier or enlargements of the Thyroid gland.
